We are delighted to be offering for sale this rare and collectable 928 GT
Designed to replace the 911, but ultimately fulfilling a very different role, the Porsche 928 has always stood apart from its rear-engined brethren. With four seats, a decent amount of space for luggage and a large V8 engine nestling under the bonnet, the 928 made a far better grand tourer than the 911 ever could.
It was a genuinely ground-breaking car when it was launched in 1978 too, and after scooping the European Car of the Year award, the model’s future looked bright. Porsche spent a lot of time and money making sure that this front-engined, V8-powered coupe would blow the world away. It was an engineering masterpiece, and was such a groundbreaking effort.
Following on from its initial series production, in the spring of 1989 Porsche released the 928 GT, a blend of 928 S4 and Clubsport models, it had all the S4 luxury but now with clubsport performance.
Unlike the Clubsport— which had no central locking, rear wiper, power seats, cruise control, rear sun visors or remote-control tailgate release—the 928GT was not spartanly equipped. It came with all the above, and a sound system incorporating no fewer than 10 speakers as well as automatic air-conditioning, tyre pressure sensors, ABS and an alarm system.
A quick glance most would mistake the GT for an S4, but the very subtle twin tailpipes were unique, the rear wheels and track both wider, the arches were modified to suit, and of course it wore the iconic GT badge.
Other GT-only modifications included a limited-slip differential with a locking ratio of 40 percent, a reinforced final drive, stiffer springs, tauter dampers and a shorter gear shift lever

By October 1995 this Guards red with Linen hide GT had already changed hands three times, before then landing with HR Owen and being sold to a Mr Dresser, who kept it for a further 6 years, it was then sold to a Mr Van Der Merwe in June 2001 before being passed to its most recent custodian back in 2004, having covered just over 106000 miles at that time, it can be noted from the current mileage, the car had barely turned a wheel since.
In 2017 at just over 107000 miles, it was treated to a comprehensive checkover with instruction to resolve any faults found, over £4k was spent refreshing the car and reinstating the fuel system, all ABS sensors were replaced, new tyres were fitted, and the AC system was fully serviced and converted from R12 – R134A gas.
Thankfully the car has a very nice history file containing nearly all OPC invoices plus many previous MOT’s and documented works carried out.
The original book pack is filled with all the correct manual’s pamphlets and guides, and the original service book is in lovely condition, showing the following stamped maintenance.

Notable additional work carried out at Lancaster OPC being a clutch replacement at 106206 miles in October 2003.
The car has no doubt been hibernating in a dry environment out of the sun, and presents extremely well for its age and mileage. The engine fires straight up and runs beautifully, out on the road it feels confident and effortless, whilst endulging you with comfort and sound, a real shame they certainly don’t make cars like this anymore.
