The R is the most powerful variant in the iconic Volkswagen Golf range, with 0-62mph times squeezing just below the 5 seconds mark, this is of course in the favoured DSG gearbox configuration. Whilst we all love the GTI incarnations of the Golf, the added acceleration and the introduction of 4WD system (4motion) develops an improved all round driving experience.
In our opinion this mk 7.5 sits in the ‘sweet spot’ of the Golf R production for numerous reasons. Firstly, being a run out model of the mk 7 we have some great standard features: Keyless entry & start, rear view camera and premium LED headlights to name but a few. Secondly, the new mk 8 seems to have lost a little bit of traditional Volkswagen quality with its interior finish as well as needlessly replacing pleasing buttons with touch operated ‘pads’ that can be frustrating to use. Plus, we prefer £165 a year to enjoy our fabulous Great British roads!
This Deep Black Pearlescent variant has 2 very desirable optional extras from factory: Panoramic sunroof with electric tilt and slide as well as the must have 19-inch Pretoria alloys wheels (these ones were finished from factory in black), the standard 18-inch standard option simply don’t complement the aggressive styling of the Golf R.
